There Will Be Blood Connections

The film There will be Blood relates to the storyline of a video game calledRed Dead Redemption. This is because both the film and video game have the reoccurring theme of poor father-son relationships. In the film, Daniel Plainview abandons his adopted son named HW and is never close enough to him to have a good relationship. Daniel leaves his son on a train and never discovers him until very late into the future when HW is an adult. Even after Daniel discovers HW, he sees how successful he is, but he decides to disown him and breaks the truth to HW that he is adopted. In the video game Red Dead Redemptions, John Marston is an outlaw who is forced to capture his former gang members in order to protect his family from the Federal Bureau. As a result, he is very distant from his family especially with his son Jack Marston. John barely spends time with his son because he is too focused on hunting criminals and never makes time to help Jack grow into a better person. John Marston unfortunately dies and his son is left to continue his father’s legacy even though he never had a good relationship with him. In addition, Both the film and video game are similar because both take place in a wild-west setting from the early to mid 1900’s. Overall, the film There Will be Bloodand the video game Red Dead Redemptionare very similar as poor father-son relationships are shown and they both have a very identical settings in the wild-west.

The film, There will be Bloodalso relates to another film called Road to Perdition. In the film Road to Perdition, Mike Sullivan is an enforcer for a Midwestern mobster who loses his wife after she was murdered by another mobster. Mike and his son set out on a journey of revenge and self-discovery in order to take over the city. This film is similar to There Will be Bloodbecause both films are centered around disturbed fathers who are trying to become the best in their fields while being attached to their sons. In There Will be Blood, Daniel Plainview starts off from nothing and works his way to become the one of the best entrepreneurs in the oil drilling business and he accomplishes his feats by getting his hand dirty. Similarly with Road to Perdition, Mike Sullivan also gets his hands dirty in order to gain control of the city through being a mobster. Both films showcase how one man’s mission can ultimately destroy their most important relationships and it results in them being hungry for power.
